Confession Time

I think I've been silent for too long and if I don't do this now, I don't know when I'm going to do it... so I might as well do it now.

I am completely and utterly smitten by All the Small Things.

Further confessions, inappropriate squeeing, and other embarassments behind the cut. Oh yeah, and spoilers up to and including episode five. And icons! )

Sunday! Sunday! Sunday!

Do you like Alan Moore?
I love Alan Moore. It started when Mike loaned me his copy of Watchmen. It's brilliant, one of the best pieces of writing, full stop. Although I've been into comics since I was in junior high (I was a fan of Neil since Black Orchid), I never was into superhero stuff so I dismissed all of it (including material that I now consider brilliant, such as The Dark Knight Returns). "No no, definitely read this." he pressed me and it was gorgeous. From there, I started consuming Moore's works such as V for Vendetta, From Hell and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (*weeps silently for that awful awful film adaptation*).

When I heard about his project Lost Girls, I preordered my copy. I was intrigued by the concept behind it and when it came, I greedily read it in on sitting. I proudly own my copy. I don't care for Gebbie's artistic style, but as a complete work, it's just gorgeous. The artwork is reminiscent of images from my childhood, sometimes brilliantly colored, and it adds to the experience of the characters reliving their sexual awakenings.

Top Shelf, the publisher of Lost Girls, sent an announcement email about the "one-and-only filmed TV segment on LOST GIRLS" with a link to watch it on SexTV (warning: very NSFW). It's really a fascinating introduction to the work, if you are not familiar with it. Check it out!

We do not acknowledge that children have a sexuality. We don't acknowledge that we had a sexuality when we were children... We can remember what filthy little beasts we were when we were younger, and we prefer to supress that. -- Alan Moore

I made more icons and increased the number I had on my account to 121, since I was nearing the 51 user pic limit I had.

More Pegg goodness! And Shortbus too. And Martha. Oh, and one of Freeman. )

Simon Pegg is my new boyfriend

I spent last night and most of today knitting and watching Hot Fuzz. I borrowed my sister's copy, as I am loathe to purchase one of my own unless it is the two disc special edition like the one that was distributed in the UK. (I've heard that there are 2-disc versions at Walmart, but I am loathe to go there and buy anything. Heck, I don't even know where my local Walmart is located, so I'm stuck waiting for it to be offered at Best Buy.)

I then took some screenshots (I figured how to make it super-easy with VLC Media Player) and made some new icons. Whee!

New Icon Spam! Click if you like Simon Pegg )

I also borrowed my sister's digital SLR camera and took some lovely yarn pr0n photographs. I've been trying to motivate myself to update woolgathering and this looks like it will be this weekend. WHEE! A new design is coming along with some pretty pretty pics. It makes me very happy.

What doesn't make me happy is all the LJ stuff with my friends. It makes me quite sad, considering that I think it's a very vocal and tiny puritanical group that can't keep out of others' playrooms. As a precaution, I friends-locked my Hermione/Ginny fic, since it clearly takes place while they are still in school and is definitely PWP. I could probably argue that it has some artistic merit in that I was attempting to stylistically mimic Anais Nin (while grabbing dialogue from Ken Park). (My other fic is all adults, so I am not nervous about those pieces.)

LiveJournal does what it does (community/shared blogging) really well and easily. It would be a shame if one of the more colorful aspects would leave because of a few folks who like to stir up trouble and can't mind their own business. Kudos to the folks who aren't letting this get them down and are continuing to create and express their fandom.

Question meme! )

I haven't gotten a lot of responses for my Expose me! post, but I've already started working on them. I've gotten Sympathy for Lady Vengence from my sister and plan on watching it over the weekend. I've also got a copy of Pale Fire that is on my to-read-next shelf. Woo! Still looking for more recommendations! (Next week: farmers market in town to buy good tomatoes and carrots and other fresh produce.)
